Recommended Resolutions/Bitrates [DVD]

Okay, I just bought a program that will compress your DVD's to H.264, but I'm wondering which resolutions/bitrates to use. These are fully customizable in the program I purchased. What do you recommend as the res/bitrate for a widescreen DVD, and for a fullscreen DVD?

does it give you recommendations? because i always leave it at recommened for the screan resolution you choose for the DVD might cut off on the sides.

It gives recommendations, but they are geared towards portable media players (e.g. 320.x204, etc...). No big resolution presets.
