please help !! reinstalling xp on dell dimension

I am trying to reinstall XP on a dell dimension 2300. When I get to the point (blue screen) C: partition1 19085mfb free unpartitioned space 8mb. What to do install over partition 1 ? It wont let me delete the current OS. Sorry if this is a simple question but newbie. Thanks LM in UK.

are you restoring using the win xp cd's ?

if so, put in the cd with the driver's on it & boot up with the cd, delete the primary partition.

if it asks you for the name of the partition, just hit enter, it will delete the partition for you, go back, & make a new one...install OS on that one.

just remember to have a good working anti-virus working, before going to Microsoft for their CRITICAL UPDATES.
