MKV to AVI with minimal quality loss?

The problem with AVI is that it has a maximum size of 2GB - whilst there are exceptions, most programs won't read any AVI files bigger than that. It's one of the reasons why MKV files were created in the first place.

So if your hi def footage is less than 2GB, yes it should be possible. Otherwise nope. Why do you want to anyway?

will i lose the quality of the video
It depends on your codec - but if the MKV file is less than 2GB and you're careful with how you switch it over (being sure to select the correct resolutions etc.) you should be ok.

If it's >2GB then yes - you'll have to sacrifice some of the quality so it fits.

Can you convert MKV to WMV?
I don't know of any reason why not.

That said, why the reason for all these conversions? What's wrong with using the MKV files as they are?
