losing hard disk space

not sure if this is the right place to post it, but here it is anyway:

I think I'm losing space from the hard disk. The HD is 160GB. Somehow it tells me that i only have ~1GB. It happened to me once before. I went and deleted couple of games, then somehow i went to ~70GB of free space! The two games together barely reach 10GB.

Do I need to make the system rearrange the files or something?

I'm using Windows XP pro.

meby the disk is in a "bad" format ....what dose the bios say the disk size is?
