loading win xp problems

I'm trying to load win xp on a couple computers I recently got. I had to put hard drives in each one. I'm a computer rookie so i'm not very advanced in knowhow. I can't even get the things to boot, can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. If anyone could help Me out I would like it very much. The hard drives I used had both been used, if that will help anyone to figure out My problem. Thank You very much for your time.

Ok so all the hard drives are physically installed on the computer?

What type of hard drives are these? PATA, SATA, SCSI? Does the BIOS recognize the hard drives installed? Are these drives formatted and partitioned?

Have you been installed the operating system fully onto the computers? (has it takin you through the setup process and acutally went to 100%) IF so what errors are you gettin when the computer starts? (boot.ini, prompt for which way you want windows to boot up?) What version of Xp are you loading with which service pacK?
