interface (xp)

Does anyone know how to change the interface of xp? My brothers pc had some sort of update on win xp and now it has some features of vista on it. Like the clock and news on the side of the screen?

Theme pack installed?
Widgets?

There have been no official XP updates that create that result on any of my four pc's here so I would assume the problem lies with one of the above.

theres a free yahoo widget app. i tried it before it was pretty sweet (that was before i got vista)

DONT use windows blinds, there is a patch out there that allows you to set your themes without an external application, i cant remember what it is called but i will find it for you. here is what my xp interface looks like as of now:
