How is this set up, what could I have overlooked for it to run so slow?

I built this comp a year ago.

Intel i5-2500k (slightly OCed to 4.1 just using Smart6)
GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3
Radeon HD 6850
8gig G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 DDR3
Ultra X3 1000w

Its an old HDD (Standard 7200rpm, will eventually upgrade to a SSD)
and the copy I bought of Windows 7 Ultimate X64 wasnt legit (got screwed over, key was "stolen"), trying to find a legit one for a price I can afford but its really difficult on 8.50 an hour.

Anyway, it takes forever to boot up (I have Quick Boot enabled), usually stays on the screen that says "Loading Operating System...." and can last up to 10 minutes, programs dont load fast, games are pretty quick tho usually.

A couple suggestions I was given on Yahoo Answers Ive already tried multiple times anyway were defrag and turn off start up programs. Ive tried reinstalling windows again just to see if I gain anything back before it goes to black mode but nothing changed.

Anyway, is it just the OS and my oldish HDD?

What could I possibly have overlooked? This is my first build so tell me everything you can think of even if its a small thing that no one usually forgets.

Thatd be great if thats all it was since I can get an HDD for pretty cheap. Any other possibilities come to mind?
