Error messages

Can anyone help me with this problem. I just recently bought a piece of software and tried to load it up on my computer. I have an HP Pavilion Pentium 4, 2.8ghz. Windows XP. When I tried to load it up after agreeing to the user agreements it would come up with an error message reading
( error#0x80040707 Description: Dll function call crashed: chkregs setup window) Then it would say setup will now terminate. I was wondering if there was anyone out there who could help me with this problem. Thanks Andrew

could be the software prog. itself, take it back and get another copy....see if it does the same thing

just one more thing: try installing it in safe mode..
