"Error Loading Operating System"

I just installed. or rather part way installed Fedora Core 4. It tells me to reboot, I do so, then I get "Error Loading Operating System." Why is this? I read on another forum that it was a GRUB (GRand Unified Bootloader) issue. Although I haven't the slightest clue what to do with GRUB, how to access, or just plain what to do...

Has anyone else encountered this? If so PLEASE tell me how to fix it. Or if you haven't encountered it but know how to fix it anyways please do tell as well!

Same issue when installing Ubuntu on my machine. I tried reinstalling GRUB, several times, and nothing- still wouldn't work. I do know that it is with the GRUB boot loader, just not sure how to fix it. Before I usually do anything major, I create a Ghost image of my HD, verify the integrity, and then proceed. Needless to say, I've learned my lesson from things like this

You can try going through the setup process again, leave the file systems intact, and try to install the GRUB boot loader again.

Whatever happened to Lilo? I had a better success rate out of it
