Dont want Dual Monitors

I have a problem hopefully you can fix

I bought a HP 2338 monitor.
when I hooked it up it seems the graphics card was insufficient for it . By messing around I somehow set up two monitors in my display settings

1. Philips /Ati Graphics card

1. HP /Intel on board graphics.

How do I lose the first setting and couple the HP with the ATI( which I will then upgrade)

when I try to delete the ATI it goes black and I have to hook up both monitors to get a screen back. I am afraid to uncheck dual monitors in settings for fear of getting no display at all

I'm a little confused what you are trying to do.

Are you saying the second monitor is on the onboard GPU and you want it on the add-in card? If so, just plug it into the second plug on the card.

I have only vga on card. That seems to be married to philips monitor. When I put plug from HP monitor into card I get desktop without Icons or task bar and seemingly noway for mouse to get anything visible
