At which point they asked for my help and i recommended them getting there windows vista cd/dvd to repair it.
However they cannot find any install/repair disk they got with their laptop.

Now I have a windows vista Ultimate disc so I was wondering is it possible to use an ultimate disc to repair other versions of the operating system e.g buisnees enterprise e.t.c because i do not know which the laptop has

If not anyone got any ideas into fixing it without the disc preferably ?

Type "sfc /scannow" into the Start Menu's Search Box and press enter. This will search for missing or corrupted Windows files and replace them. A lot like a repair.

Thats the problem my friend cant even boot up the OS

In that case, press f8 during startup and select Safe Mode with command prompt. Type the sfc command there.
