Hey all my friends on skype have showed me they can play avi clips every where on there computer i cant this is for editing btw, the is a program i use camtasia it wont let me play avi files in it aswell as pinncle studio 15 all my friends can tho even wmp i cant play avi in it there to

well if I understand it right, you will need to download codecs. the best package with all you may need is K-Lite codec pack, it's free, you can get the pack here

you should also get a decent player, I strongly recommend this avi player, I use it (it's called vlc player, it's free)
