So Stupid!! Ok, the $4500 for an old truck, great. But do you know what they are doing with the cars you trade in?... They lock up the motor, then send it to a scrap yard for 60 days, and after that, it gets crushed. So stupid. There are people that could use these cars!! How many 5.0L F series trucks are being turned in... How many 350 Chevys... So many great cars. Old Muscle cars that barely run. Could be so much!! Big block trucks and cars... Great motors for a street/strip car... All destroyed. Doesnt make sense. They should send the car in working order to a junkyard. Maybe have special Gov't yards, but just dont destroy them. Such a waste!!

Yeah, this is very unfortunate. If you already have these cars/trucks at least you know your antique investments are getting more valuable. I always like to look at the good lol

Never thought of it that way... The 5.0 Mustang I am building will be worth a lot someday, haha.

Some guys at chitownracing work at dealerships. They just drain the oil out of the cars, then have a demo derby with 'em... sounds fun, haha.

It's a liberal thing. *in a gay voice* "omgosh guyz, we gotta git rid of dese old carsss tey are palluting r air and rooining teh O-zon."

Because global warming is SOOOOO eminent. Al and the Gorites - "Do as we say, not as we do." (note that this is said while flying the leerjet across the country all day long.)

You're missing the point. They want them off the roads...permanently. Crushing them will achieve this.

How come we alot hundreds of billions to retarded stuff like socialist health care but only a billion to stimulating car sales? A smart Idea would be for the government to take in these cars and auction them as to not lose everything. I know the dems and hardcore tree-huggers want them off the road, but they are sacrificing mass amounts of money to do so and it's not exactly making taxes any better or improving the deficit in anyway.

Better yet, Donate them.

^ How the hell does that improve our situation? We want them off our roads. It may be a different story in your state, but I'll be happy to see less of these cars on the freeway.

Global Warming is a legit possibility. It's hard to tell if it is occurring right now because the planet does have its thermal cycles, but there is definitely a possibility of it occurring in the future. Earth is believed to be in the part of the cycle where it warms up. Now, if you take into account all the trees being chopped down around the world and the increase of carbon release into the ozone, Earth's increase in surface temperature skyrockets!

I don't think we should stop our industrialization. People today depend too much on it. I just think that people need to be responsible. Seriously...how hard is it to plant a couple trees after you cut one down? Growing trees won't solve all the problems, but at least it's a start! Obama & Democrats are taking action and trying to decrease carbon emission since no one else is cooperating.

One thing I do agree with you is that these people are more or less hypocrites. If they aren't willing to switch to a more friendly method of transportation, manufacturing, etc..then why should we? I was watching a program about dropping "seed bombs" that would increase and facilitate the amount of trees planted at a given time, and the scientists/engineers who were coming to devise a plan arrive in a Hummer...

Eh, I think it has both good and bad, but overall I don't really like it. The government is spending our money to take crap cars and crush them. I don't see how that is benefiting me at all. Sure, they say it's better for the environment to have more fuel efficient cars, but it's been said that if people have more fuel efficient cars, they drive more, which balances out that savings of gas...so if you ask me it's not really doing all that much for the environment. The good thing is that it helps out the car makers, but honestly, the car makers got themselves where they are in the first place. Toyota and Honda are doing great, GM and Chrysler are doing poor because of their decisions. I say if they set themselves up for failure then let them fail. I love GM cars, I have a Pontiac, and the family has a great 05 Silverado we use for towing...but I don't want to give them more money then I already do to bail them out.

EDIT: About global warming...as mentioned in the post above. I have a question to ask those who are gung-ho Al Gore followers on global warming. You (the Al Gore followers) say that carbon waste is a huge cause of global warming, but look at mars. Why are it's Ice caps melting if it has no carbon?

I do believe we might have something to do with the o-zone layer, but I don't think we are effecting global warming, that is the earth taking care of itself. From what I understand, the O-zone layer does not protect us from heat at all, it simply blocks harmful UV rays, which helps us from getting cancers and other sort of things.
