Im looking to buy or build an arcade controller to use on my pc. I have looked around, and the cheapest 2-player controller seems to be the x-arcade thing. if there is not a cheaper one, i guess im stuck with this, but i would really rather build my own if someone wants to tell me how, and all the parts i need etc. I just want this so i can play metal slug and all those games on my pc since im a 90s arcade guy/// thanks.

OK...

there are a few ways to do this...
You can use either USB, Serial or the gameport/midi port on the sound card.

If you use the USB you'll need a chip to convert the analogue stick movements to a USB signal.
same with serial...

the game port is the easiest because the ADC that converts the signals is inside the computer...

http://pinouts.ru/data/GameportPCMidi_pinout.shtml

has pin outs for the controller...

the stick X and Y is controlled by potentiometers, (variable resistors) attached to the bas of the stick and th buttons are wel... buttons...

have fun...
