a somewhat n00bish question

how do i change how many pages show up in a section. atm theres links to 100's of pages. i know you can do it and there was a thread on it not long ago and i cant find anything on the search (using forum searches never helps me ). any ideas?

user cp -> edit options -> Default Thread Age Cut Off

I'd suggest changing the default to "show threads from last month"
