Hello,
Hi All

Im looking to implement a lab in work for testing some vm's running databases like Oracle and SQL server. The OS deployed will be vSphere 4.1. Hoping for around 32Gb of RAM also.

Should this be sufficient and any idea around cost.

Cheers for looking

Is that all you'll be doing on those vm's? Based on a small amount of experience xeons seem to perform better than opterons at this kind of task. But i don't work on vm's for a living, just on the side for fun.

I recommend buying a hp Proliant DL360 G4 from ebay. I bought one from the ebay store SavemyServer, and it was $100. No problems with it and Im running server 2008 trial for testing purposes. I also recommend, if you don't want to spend tons of money, you look into Ubuntu Server. It's free and has open-source equivalents of many windows based programs, difference is they are free; hence the pen-source.
