Hi guys new to the overclocking hobby. So please bear with me
I just a bought new CPU and the processor and mobo are:
AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz
MSI GF615M-P33

Ive read a lot of good review on how good both products are and as I see they are both doing great for me.

My mobo has an OC switch which can increase the speed to up to 3.4ghz and when checking the temps it hovers around 20 to 30 degrees. and if i remember right the threshhold is 60.

My question. Is it ok to just leave the OC swtich on like that for extended periods of time (ie. downloading and other system tasks) Will there be any lasting risks?

As long as the heat remains low under idle and load and your voltage isn't above the manufacturer's spec. There really aren't any "damaging" side effects of an overclock that is stable and within a safe region.

great thanks! just for reference would you know the voltage thresholds for my cpu and mobo?

It depends what you class as damaging. Even a perfectly overclocked and cooled CPU won't last as long as if it had been left alone.
