University Network

I'm not sure whether this is more of a hacking question rather than a networking question but either way its realy getting to me. I'm at university and have a local area connection to the University Network enabling the internet connection. However there is a proxy server that restricts what we can do by some great margin.
I'm wanting to connect to a friends computer (i already have their permission) and share their connection...it is a slightly unethical question to ask I know, but the restrictions stop us from ftp'ing with friends, any downloads and most annoyingly, it stops us from being able to play online multiplayer games (such as counterstrike, Quake III Arena etc...)...all things that myself and my mates love to do.
The main problem is...i have no idea how to connect via my friends computer, although i know it is possible. If anyone could help it would be very much appreciated.

ok, u need to get 1 of the following:

a patche RJ45e patch cable, which will enable you to connect to the other persons computer or you can connect via a network switch using an RJ45e ethernet cable.

either one of those shoudl work but as far as breaking through what u seem to be describing as a firewall, u would need 2 ask someone that knows about that kinda stuff, but to my knowledge i can't see it being possible! as our school network has a firewall that stops acess to websites/other computers. etc.

matt

hey I know! LOL, it could work. Instead of wired get wireless! Then you can your friend tried to set up wireless network, he leaves the router at his place, and you get the info from him then connect and it should work fine. I don't know any better way to solve that problem.

I think he is asking about remotely connecting to his friends computer. In that case Start>Program Files>Accessories>Communications>Remote Desktop Connection. There you will need to enter your friends IP address. The drawback is that he cant use his computer when you are remotely connected.

you cna download a proxy and tunnel it.

you can enter in the proxy in the same menu has your auto config

internet options>connections>LAN settings

enter that new proxy address and it should tunnel through to that proxy server and bypass the schools proxy it worked for me on a novel netware based network and a windows 2000 based.

you cna check out some proxy sites:
