could anyone explain what exacly a router is for, somehow paint me a picture of how it works and what it does. what the most important thing is to a router. im still green in that subject on routers but ill appricate any help u can get.

A router connects two or more networks together and routes packets/determines the best route for a packet to travel. Routers use routing tables to do so. Being that routers work on layer3, the network layer, they use IP addressing to do so.

With routers, you can setup segment networks, so that they have multiple broadcast domains and collision domains.
