I currently have a desktop pc and a laptop which are linked via a wireless router. I have all my music and pictures stored on the desktop which as a result is running slow and also has to be turned on when i want to access these files. I was wanting to know the best way of adding an external hard drive into the network so the desktop wouldn't need to be turned on all the time?

Thanks Gav

Unless you can find one that has an eithernet port on the back and says it can be connected to a network without a computer, then i don't think you can. This article will tell you how to share the drive over the network though

But if you only have 2 computers, why not just plug the drive into the desktop, put the music/pictures/video on it, and then connect it to the laptop?

Yea, it is possible. You need to find a hard-drive with an ethernet port, and make sure that it is compatible with your router. I've never personally done it, but I know that it is possible.

either get an external drive with an ethernet
or a router with a usb-a connector (like mine, but its not designed for this purpose so its slow, as its usb 1.1)
