How to calculate download speeds?

Hi I have a webserver and want to know what the download rate is. I have tried it and a 5mb zip file took 1min 28s and a 1mb zip file took 20s.

I have searched all over the web but have not found a calculator/method to work it out.

Thanks for your time,
James Venning.

The 5MB file you downloaded from your server, was this internal on the network, or from a totally different location? If from a different location, your getting pretty good download speeds, around 85Kbps. If many are requesting your server at the same time, it will drop. Most ISP's only allow up to 512Kbps anyway, so your average is pretty good. (Assuming this server is located at your house, business, etc) Find out from your ISP (or Web host- download speed) what your maximum upload speed is (this is the download speed everyone else gets). Hope this makes sense.
