Zalman 9700 increase heat?

I just installed Zalman 9700 CPU fan and took out my intel stock 775 fan.

For some reason, the temperatures are 10 degrees celcius more!

I was wondering if the cause of this could be too little amount of thermal paste, because I used a bit less then last time, but same brand.

I am slightly annoyed because I spent 70$ on something that raised my comp's temperature. I also noticed that the temperature of inside my case increased also.

yes, it is possible you used too much greese. also keep in mind that the temps will go down a bit as the compound sets.

I used about the size of an uncooked grain of rice

Well hell, that aint too much. Is the fan spinning at full speed or is it turned down?

could it be how I positioned the fan with my case?
Im using VA8003BWS case and I positioned it parallel to a case fan so that it would flow directly through it.

Should I position it so that all the warm air is blown straight up?

i turned up to 100%, it has raised from 45 celcuis to 55 celcuis and is warming my room

That's a weird one alright. You could try to reposition it. It can't hurt.

Make sure you spread it around. All the sites I've seen say that, but it never works for me, and my temperatures are usually a few degrees lower when I spread it.

I thought you were supposed to spread it lol, I assumed when I got card with it that said "Thermal Compound Spreader Card"
