since i am thinking of getting a new graphics card, i am thinking of getting the Verto GeForce 9600 GT 512MB GDDR3 PCIe 2.0 Graphics Card for $159.99 at a local computer store, and i was wondering if i should upgrade it from my x1950.
is it better than the HD 3850?
how much of a performance will i gain if i get the 9600 GT?
my card right now is Sapphire X1950 GT 256MB GDDR3 PCIe x16.
thanks in advance

If you want to wait, you could wait for the new ATI HD 4 series comes out. Rumors are that the single GPU card the HD 4870 with 512Mb of ram can beat Nvidia's 9800GX2.

The price is supposed to be about 200-270 for it. The lower end cards are still as good though.

But if your on a budget than go with a 8800GT or the HD 3850.

yeah, i am on a budget, i dont have a job yet, and i am graduating soon so i'll be getting some money.
my price is up to $170.
so the 3850 is better than the 9600, since you are suggesting it?

side question, what should i do with my old card? i dont want to sell it on ebay, all my friends have their own cards, and i cant find anybody to sell it to around me.

The HD 3850 isn't, no. But the HD 3870 which is available for $165: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103050 is slightly better especially at higher resolutions.

The only HD 48xx card that would be in your budget would be the HD 4850 GDDR3, the HD 4850 GDDR5 is probably going to be $225-250 and the HD 4870 will be $300+ according to leaked details.

Well, if you've got nobody to sell it to, surely the only option left is Ebay, or you could smash it up with a hammer or over volt it and then OC it to death.
