Windows xp sp2 installation.

I want to install sp2 (os windows xp) and I have 2 questions.

1. Should I back up my files if all my files located on another logical drive?
2. Will all installed programs be working or I have to reinstall some programs?

Are you just installing the service pack 2 update or the entire Windows XP SP2 OS?

If just the SP2 update, you will not need to backup your files and all programs will remain intact.
