windows setup question

if in the middle of formating the harddrive for windows xp, the comp turned off and then was rebooted and run again would any damage be done to the hdd?


my friend got a new comp and we're installing xp pro and did the full format instead of the quick and was wondering if that would be ok since there is no cancel option

For you first question. No, a reboot wouldnt do crap. But getting pissed and smashing it against the wall would,lol.

No, it shouldn't hurt the drive to have it shut down like that.

A quick format is OK.

From the Microsoft Knowledge base:

When you choose to run a regular format on a volume, files are removed from the volume that you are formatting and the hard disk is scanned for bad sectors. The scan for bad sectors is responsible for the majority of the time that it takes to format a volume.

If you choose the Quick format option, format removes files from the partition, but does not scan the disk for bad sectors. Only use this option if your hard disk has been previously formatted and you are sure that your hard disk is not damaged.

yea thats what i had read prior to this post, but we're at 70% anyhow so we might as well go with the full thing....thanks anyway
