Windows messenger/MSN messenger conflict

Im getting highly annoyed with windows messenger. Everytime I connect to the internet windows messenger automatically logs on before MSN. I prefer to use MSN so I have to log of windows messenger before I use MSN. I can turn off the automatic log on on MSN but not on windows messenger. Nor can I get rid of the stupid thing by uninstaling it.

Any ideas?

when it opens go to tools, preferences, then set it not to run in the background or start with windows.
