windows defender

I am using windows xp pro and need to know if the windows defender program is needed? I must have downloaded it in the past but don't know if it is really needed.Thanks

if you have another antispyware program, it's not required. I still recommend having it as a backup antispyware/antimalware program. It's not a bad program and best of all it's free.

I would keep it. It's barly notice able and scans without interupting. What else could you ask for?
