win 7 not reading cd's or dvd's

I just installed windows 7 and my dvd-rw is not working at all I've searched all over the internet fo ranswers and have found nothing.I tryed to use troubshooter to fix the problem and all it does is ask me to put a cd or dvd in and can't read it but keeps trying so nothing gets done.
My specs are
2 gigs of ddr2 mem
150 gb hd
hl-dt-st dvd ram gh22np2gtx 260 896 mb
windows 7 os

I can not figure out what the problem is i'm going to try and use boot to repair but i doubt it will work so any advice would be appreciated thanks

How old is the drive? Does the drive appear in Windows explorer? Most likely the issue is just some dust on the laser, get some compressed air and blow it out. I have to do with with my iBook from time to time.
