Mytob's Hackers May Spawn Unstoppable 'Super Worm'

There's mounting evidence that a group of industrious hackers is working on an especially destructive "super worm" that could spread from PC to PC indefinitely, or until it ran out of targets to infect. The most recent clues are found in the slew of Mytob worms released this week that signal a systematic development process that may indicate," a security researcher said Friday. Six variations of the Mytob worm have been spotted since Wednesday, June 1, by anti-virus vendors such as Symantec, bringing the total count since its debut four months before to more than 100. But prolific as it is, Mytob's reproductive habits aren't what draws attention from some experts. "The variants are numbered, just as if it was a regular commercial program," said Carole Theriault, a security consultant at U.K-based Sophos. "One will be number version 1.0, the next 2.0. They're trying out things, different things in each," she said.

This is no Joke here people!
The best defense that you can have right now is to make sure all your updates are installed that you have a multiple group of programs for spyware/malware as there is not a just 1 to fix all out there and that your anti-virus is installed and running full tilt

Wow mr. on-edge, sheesh if you get infected just do a sys restore, and run good anti-spy/mal/virus. :p

sounds like someone is paranoid about a worm... just back up your computer now so that when you do get attack, reformat and restore your information! that is all you have to do!

you need to read these postings before you say things that really make you look foolish.
The mydoom already disconnects all anti-virus programs and opens backdoor priviledges to hackers who then have full access to your system..It has already been reported in earlier news that variations totally lock up your computer so there is denied access to ALL your files so there is no getting them back.... So a simple system restore is going to be costly to a lot of people and cause the loss of millions of dollars worth of business.
And also they are systematically trying out new things what is to stop them from setting up a bios flash program that will destroy your whole computer....I bet you wouldn't think that that was all little smilleys then.
So the best defense is to stop them from getting in your system to begin with...not to wait and then just do a imple restore as you suggest
