I'm looking for a video card for a HTPC that'll let me use a HDMI connection that carries sound as well as video. I know that any DVI video card will do HDMI video, but what about sound?
Video card w/ HDMI output carring sound?

Any HDCP compliant card is capable of carrying sound, however you will need to use the adapter supplied by tge manufacturer, not a DVI-HDMI cable. It is also somewhat of a hassle setting it up on older ati cards, but it should be fine for you.
Also, nVIDIA cards can carry it if they have a little two pin s/pdif connetctor. I know my 9600 gso and 9800 gtx+ both have it, but I do not think the 7900 does.

Hd 4800 cards can do 7.1. My 4850 x2 is on my htpc.
You should probably look for a passively cooled card though.
