Very much resistance when connecting power to GPU

Hi.
I am trying to connect my PSU to my Geforce 6800 GS, and all the connectors are of the same type (6 pin male and female). The problem is that even if I align the pins correctly, I experience very big resistance, and I've been standing for 10 min forcing the power connector into the female of the GPU. I don't think I have damaged any of the pins, but this resistance seems incredible. As of now, I am about 1mm from where the lock should click, my question is I really need to go all the way or if it is okay to let it be as is? Is this something you recognize?

Thanks for any help
