using tv remote as computer remote

I have a usb ir receiver, and a old remote from a tv. what software should I use to get the remote to control the computer, I tried google, and I couldn't find anything.

i honestly do not think it will work at all..i has a similer question before and it is just easier to get a wireless mouse and sit it by you if you watching movies ect...
