Using External Mic with iPhone 6 and Ustream

I have and iPhone 6 and I got a Microphone that works with the iPhone (tested on the Voice Memo and the Video part of the iOS camera app. The Mic works great, but when I plug it into the Ustream App on iOS (fully updated, App and iOS) and I plug in the mic before starting up the App, it only uses the internal mic. Is there a way around this?

I have, and there is not much on there on this subject. A lot to do with hooking it up to a PC but not the iPhone, plus it seems if you are a free member your tech support is awful! (no phone and email is super slow)

The iPhones do seem to have funny little quirks like that...

I have an iPhone 5, and I regularly use an app (like whatsapp/line/kik) to voice call my girlfriend. If I have my earphones plugged in before I call her, and then I call, her voice is really quiet on the earphones, if I unplug them and then plug them back in again, the volume is much louder. (This isn't a fault with my specific phone, I've already had my old on replaced under warranty and both do it)
