used laptop!

i bought alaptop off a mate, he didnt tell me where he got it, and im just wondering if it can be traced!?i installed xp pro as it was password protected!

What's on it? Format the hd and start over if you're paranoid... I wouldn't have bought it from him if you're this paranoid...

it had windows 2000 on it! i instaled xp and now theres nothing from the past owner on it!

Well actually there is. When you reformat a dive all the information is still there. Windows just marks the whole drive as free so untill you rewirte something on the whole drive everything is still there. You need to run somthing like Norton Wipe or some other HD wiper program to get everything off of it.

Plus the laptop can still be traced. Everything on that computer has a Seral number.

Are u worried about it , thinking maybe its a stolden laptop? , if so lol no .....no way it will ever be traced to your house lol.... if thats whats your thinking
