usb microphone

since my line in and microphone inputs dont work with osx, i was thinking on getting a usb microphone. how does the sound quality compare to normal computer microphones? is it better? worse? worth buying? any suggestions?

I use a headset that was meant for the PS2. People say I sound fine on Skype, and might I add it's a very cheap headset so anything you get will be better than what I have
