Does this motherboard support SLI?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128018

And regarding hard drives, do I want SATA 3.0Gb/s or Serial ATA150?

Shorted out my mobo and processory yesterday and I'm gonna build an entirely new system as the old one was almost four years old. Will I be able to recover files from my HD? I know that I've fitted it into my brothers computer before, but is there any way I will be able to transfer the files back onto my new computer?

Thanks in advance,
Jake

the mobo that you've selected does not support SLi, and i'm assuming that you know you need to buy a new processor (and maybe memory) as well if you wish to switch to that motherboard. as for the HDD. sata 3.0gb/s is better than serial ata150... much better. try to get a 7200.1 rpm hdd that features perpendicular recording.

I'm building a conroe system so i need a 775 socket type mobo. But thanks on the HD answer, all the mobo's that support socket 775 and SLI have horrible reviews, anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jake

i was looking at a decent one by gigabyte, give me a second, i'll edit this post soon.

[edit] i forgot that i was looking at zipzoomfly.com, so i hope you're comfortable with this site, i've ordered from them many times and they've never failed me, they're a great reliable site and alot of the times have a bigger variety of stock than newegg. so.. heres a good mobo...

and if that's out of your reach..

browse through all of the motherboards, i haven't done much research on conroe since i don't plan on buying it any time soon, so find a decently priced motherboard (don't skimp out) and do a little research on the model via google.

yep, that motherboard supports sli, i would look into other chipsets though since there are some really good ones out there right now that are better than the 965, most notably.. the 680i

Yea i'm looking for something around 150-200$ if you could recommend the best one to me in your opinion, socket 775 that supports SLI if you could. It's been 4 years since I built a computer so I don't know what the best options are right now.

Thanks,
Jake
