Thoughts on a new gaming rig

I was just wondering what your thoughts were on a rig. I will have about $1000 to spend. I know that I will be using SLI. I prefer Nvidia over ATI just as a preference, and I love AMD, too.

I am thinking about the 8800s or 9xxxx series. But I am not sure which is better to get. Or any of the other components. I thing that I am going for a simple mid-case, nothing to fancy. Probably get a Nvidia 600s series mobo, but I am not very knowledgeable about CPU's so any help there would be help. As for ram I am thinking in the range of the Corsair 4gb (2gb x 2) DDR2. Other than that I am not sure what else I will need. So anyone that has a high end rig, or just has some thoughts please let me know them.

That sounds like a really good deal. This will be a long term project for me as i need to save up for a new car too.

I like most of the things cornholio linked to but I would recommend a C2D platform as opposed to the 64 X2.
