SSD and hard disk power management

I have recently installed a new SSD and was advised to set the "power down disks when pc is idle" to "never" in power options as SSD's should not be stopped due to Garbage Collection background tasks.

I have now set the drives to never but I am wondering if this is going to cause the drives to ware out quicker than letting them turn off after some time.

Some people say that leaving them constant on causing the same damage as having them keep stopping and starting.

What do you think ?

Also is there a way of setting the SSD to constant on but allowing just the mechanical drives to turn off after a set idle time ?

Every time I have experienced a hard drive failure, it is usually a logical failure. I have never seen the spindle motor go bad.

FWIW, I have built several machines that have been running continuously for over a year with no hard drive issues. Just remember that heat is the enemy. All of my machines have a fan blowing over the hard drive bays.
