are you talking about firewalls and anti virus?
if so, you can get a wide selection of both. some will cost a lot and some very little.
if you go to majorgeeks.com and look at there sections on free firewalls and anti virus, you can pick up some effective stuff.
i use zone alarm and avg, both free and both highly rated.
