SATA transfer speed

Hi
I have an intel DB65AL board which has one SATA 6.0 GB/s port and 5 SATA 3.0 GB/s ports. and I have a Barracuda 7200.12 SATA 3Gb/s 250GB Hard Drive (ST-3250318AS). I have connected my hard disk to the 6.0 GB/s SATA port on the motherboard.

The problem is that when I checked in the BIOS, I am getting transfer speeds of only 1.5 GB/s even though my mobo and my hard disk are capable of more than that.

What could be wrong?

Some older seagate drives had a little jumper that you needed to pull to get it to run at the proper speeds. It's possible that you need to take off a jumper.

The other thing to consider is that most platter based hard drives can't even saturate even the 1.5 Gbps link that the first generation SATA can deliver.

Download HDTune and run a benchmark on the drive and post the screenshot. We can give you an idea if the numbers you're getting are good or not.
