reformat question

The BIOS doesn't have the ability to do a format. When you insert the OS disk, it will format the drive for you prior to installing the OS. You could use a floppy, but I really doubt that you have one.
 
Best thing to use is the disc that came with the hard drive. If you don't have it just pop in to their website and get a copy. Burn a cd and boot from that.
 
if you really want to truly erase a hard drive, just use something like gwscan or Active@ KillDisk. They both do zeroing out, and then anything you try to install to the drive will have to format the drive for you to become usable, so you kill two birds with one software stone.
