Processor upgrade advice

Hi, i have a dell xps 430 with a Q8300 cpu

I want to upgrade to a better cpu but i don't wish to change the motherboard etc.

budget is roughly £100

whats the best cpu to upgrade to that will definitely fit my motherboard?

i don't do a lot of gaming on my pc, but its starting to lag a bit now and getting on my nerves.

i have 8gb of ram which i think is the maximum i can have.

piriform speccy says my motherboard is;

Welcome to CF , I have just upgraded my desktop with that exact CPU and its very good. Also since the motherboard is DDR3 you should consider putting some more ram if you haven't already. You could upgrade to the Q9550 but you'd need to find one first ARK | Intel® Coreâ„¢2 Quad Processor Q9550 (12M Cache, 2.83 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB). Did a quick eBay search and found some q9550 | eBay, I'd recommend purchasing a new cooler too such as Hyper Evo 212 which is an excellent budget cooler http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-120mm/dp/B0068OI7T8

Also remember to apply the latest Dell BIOS on the DELL Support page, that could cause an issue when exchanging processors. Just a thought to BK_123's post. The Q9550 will get you some increase in performance.
