I went to crucial.com and ran the upgrade scanner.

It suggested that I use

Module Size: 8GB Kit (4GBx2)
Package: 204-pin SODIMM
Feature: DDR3 PC3-10600
Specs: DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.35V • 512Meg x 64

I am wondering if I can use a set of RAM 4GBx2 at PC3 12800 with no ill effect?
Amazon.com: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory (CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9): Computers & Accessories

I am guessing that I can and that the memory will just run at the speed it was designed for???

TIA!!!

If your motherboard supports it then yes most modern boards can take a lot of memory.

Look up your motherboard model and make sure that it can handle 8GB of RAM.

If you have not configed the BIOS then the speed of the RAM will be at factory settings.

Sorry, this thread didn't post for a long time so i thought something was wrong and posted again. thanks for the help though.
