what can i do with a parallel port?

my family just threw out our last ghetto printer that used it, so now everything runs on USB.

is there anything useful i can do with my parellel ports on my PC's? howbout serial ports? <OTHER THAN CONVERTING IT TO USB

Parallel ports were ONLY designed to be used with old school printers. They are designated as LPT1 as mentioned on the A+ certification exam.

thats the only thing you can do with parallel ports, is connect printers.

as for serials some devices use them. specially homebrew things, you can hack a PS2 and connect it to your pc using one i believe.

curios, why do you want to use them so badly? i have both my printer\serial port in my bios disabled to free up resources.
