Outlook Receive Problem

Hello all.
I have an email problem.
I'm running Win 2000 - and I can send fine however I cannot receive without clicking the
'Send/Receive' button. I'm sure its a setting;however I cannot find any setting to restore this function.
Any suggestions?

It happens with me in Windows 2K as well - automatically downloads regularly in XP and Vista, quite strange?!
