Optical Drive

I was burning discs using my opticl drive (which is a cd/dvd RW) and it was working fine. Then I put a new blank dvd in and it shows the disc but say it cannot read it. I have tried a purchased DVD and that plays and I have tried a different make of blank dvd and the same problem.

Any Ideas.

I am confused. If the disk is blank and formatless, then it will never read it, but it will show that there is one. Can it not write to the disk?
