after reading this awesome article on Tomshardware, http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/09/12/pentium_dual_core/index.html

i'm lookin to get an E2160 and do exactly as they did. I know there will be some minor tiny things that the E2160 will never be able to do, cuz its not a C2Duo, but for gaming and such, it seems like that doesnt matter, and it'll match or BEAT the e6750, which is freakin aweseom.

im looking for the CHEAPEST upgrade possible (i have less than $500 to spend). and im lookin for the best performance, so i want no less than 4GB of ram.

hows this:

im choosing that MSI card, because its the cheapest one that runs at 660mhz and has 1900mhz memory, and has 512MB, not 256.
im choosing that Gigabyte board over the famous "solid-capacitor" one because the only thing it doesnt have is Optical TOSLINK audio output, which i couldnt care less about.

for $110 more i could get the exact same build with an E6750, and it WONT perform ANY better (HAH)

The E2160 is a great buy you're an overclocker. If not then it cannot match the E6750. But to get it to E6750 performance, you're going to need a P35 chipset. Don't worry, it only costs $20 more: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128084 You're not going to get a good overclock with a G31 chipset. And you're also going to need some decent RAM otherwise your FSB speed will be limited: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227252 $79 after mail-in rebate.
BTW, you do know the E2160 only has 1MB of L2 cache, don't you?

The L2 Cache makes a noticeable difference, but that article shows that gaming isn't really affected.

If you're just doing that, then by all means, go ahead; but get a P35 and some G.SKILL RAM.

In other things like editing and other processor-heavy operations however, it still won't beat the E6750, trust me.

Over the Transcend kit, yeah definitely, plus it has 4-4-4-12 timings. And it's almost the same price with the rebate. The E2160 wouldn't be able to reach it's full potential with the kit you were going to get at first.

lotta reviewers complaining about their E2160 being strange when using that ram
