Thoughts?

i would say the one that is $1,549 because the video memory on it is 1gb and has an extra gb of ram just my thought on it.

What OS will you be using? What is the speed of the HDD on the second notebook?

If both of them have capacity for 4GB of RAM, then I would just get the 2nd one. Not only would it be cheaper and smaller for you to carry around, but you'd also be able to upgrade RAM if necessary. I think the 9500 is better then the HD3650. I'm not a pro so I could be mistaken.

Mr Yoyo: I don't know what you mean smaller HDD. It's 500GB. Last I checked 500 > 320.

The 9500 is basically a die shrink of an 8600GT, the HD 3650 is better, but a 7200RPM drive will be noticably faster than 5400RPM.

yeah the 5400 rpm is the one thing that stinks I can't find a 7200rpm in this price range.

Here is my priorites
2.5ghz processor
3 or 4 gb ram
9500 or 3650 doesn't matter to me
14.1" preferred
would really like a 7200rpm drive but can't find anything in this price range

I'm going with the 14.1 but I wanted to make sure that I could do this since I'm a desktop guy.

The ram is a (2gb+1gb) configuration can I replace the 1 gb with

CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Laptop Memory

and add a 200gb 7200rpm HDD and then use the 320gb as an external HDD
