hi im trying to network my two computers

iv got them connected together (physically!) but im having trouble connecting to the internet through the client computer. it should connect through the main computer, how do i set it to do this?
when i click internet explorer on secondary computer i get the dial up thing and it tries to connect through usb modem (which is now plugged in other computer!) how i get it to connect through lan port?

also how do i view files on either computer?

Not too detailed but it seems you are trying to set up ICS Internet Connection Sharing. If this is the case then you will need to have the right type of cable. For that you need a twisted type cable.
Note if you are trying to set up ICS, your primary computer should have two ethernet cards and the other one, [your secondary] one card.
To view files, you have to right clic a folder/properties and share it. Then in your windows explorer of the other computer, expand the network and you will see the shared folder(s).
