Ok so herer is my situation, first off I hope I'm posting in the right area. So downloading torrents I directly downloaded a virus ironic how I was downloading an antivirus at the time. Anyways I'm completely f'd, my comp logs out right after I log in I believe I'm infected with adware and spyware as my background has changed and I get random applications running plus I get stuff like "the administrator will not allow you to perform these actions etc.." Forgive me if I'm typing weird I'm using my bb curve. Anyways I'm 16 so I am not much on the moola which I was downloading in the first place. So I'm sitting here with an open computer I've identified the basic components ram, hdd, rom reader/writers/floppy disks etc.. This is a dell dimension 4500 nice comp appears to be expandable as there are several slots my comp is relatively old. 2000 to be exact so I have thought of a few things to do I don't really care about any of the data on my single master hdd except for my os. And currently I do not know where my xp os is my key stuff is on the side of my comp so I was thinking of reformatting it but I want my win xp back. As I said I'm completely f'd as I can't even get into safe mode or anything and like I said I only have 1 18 gb hd sad I know so I just thought of buying one of those 80 gb hdd's. Also can someone explain how to add other hard drives? Seems the main chord has 2 other identical chords and I discovered that my floppy is not plugged in... I have some photos its cool how it opens like a book nice and convenient. I do plan on getting at least 2 hd's total I figure if I can restore this one ill assign it as my flight simulator x hd as I hear it keeps expanding that's my thing alittle gaming and aviation models and engineering like google sketchup or turbocad. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

This should help you with adding a new drive or two: Dell Support - Adding Parts

As for reinstalling XP, if you have your original product key, you can download (or borrow) the same version of XP that is on your computer and use your key with that.

My main curiosity is what is up with the logging off part its weird. Crap maybe I can't add pictures

Is it just logging you off or completely shutting down the computer? I'm sure you have a nasty virus or two hiding out on that rig. Did you try any of the suggestions I made from your other thread?

Now its just logging straight off as soon as I log in it flashes and logs out... Also I've tried every boot modes still can't log in lmao safe mode etc... Also does any desktop hdd work or is it like a proprietary thing? I'm using like barracuda or something I did try all of the spyware but this is major I can't even like do any scans as it says it is forbidden by my 'administrator' which I didn't even know about

I have a plan in which ill borrow a friends hdd and use it as a master hdd and put mine as second then either reformat it or scan/fix it also I had the specialist look at it and he's talkin about rootkit viruses which even reformatting can't fix.

So here is the problem up till now I didn't even know that the administrator account existed its not in normal mode. I only noticed it in safe mode and since this comp is over9 years old I hhave no clue to the pass. Also I tried this password thing where you burn a copy of something onto a disk and then use that to log in. That also failed its like my disk drivers aren't working they can't find the readable/writeable disk. Really screwed here lmao

So if I did hook it up to someone elses comp to get scanned as a second hdd is there a possibility of the virus migrating from one hd to another? Gosh I wish there was a clean up disk where you popped it in overnight it did its thing and it extracts the virus out or maybe just a reset button on the hdd
